Our featured speaker will be Becky A. Cole. She will be speaking about the top 10 reasons your proposal gets rejected. She will also discuss what a proposal is and isn’t.

Demystifying Criminal Backgrounds and Employment

At R3 Collaborative we posture ourselves to be a leader in providing resources to help those whose lives have been impacted by incarceration. We work closely with many organizations to provide a wealth of information. On Sept. 14, from 1 – 2 p.m., we will be hosting a small seminar to help demystify the hiring of someone who has been incarcerated.

Emily Baxter from the Council of Crime and Justice will be doing a workshop at R3 Collaborative.

Emily will be talking about topics such as:

1. Criminal Justice Trends and Basic Legalise

2. How to obtain, understand, correct a Criminal Record

3. Collateral Sanctions; including DHS Disqualifications

4. Applicable Laws

Fair Credit Reporting Act
Civil Rights Act
Negligent Hiring

5. Expungements and Pardons

6. Advocating in the Light of a Record

We had a great turn-out at our first orientation!

Next Step Staffing is a social business enterprise where all of the profit from the company will go back to provide sustainable funding for additional programming through R3 Collaborative. In addition, the employer can designate 10 percent of the net profit from each individual who is hired through Next Step Staffing to the non-profit R3 member of their choice.

Next Step Staffing will be partnering with other community resources to provide ongoing soft-skills development to offer the best possible candidate: one that is reliable, accountable to the community, demonstrating the desire for change and re-integration, and a valuable asset to the employer.

Please be our guest at the next R3 Networking Meeting Thursday, Aug. 18th. Prayer begins sometime around 10:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin promptly at 11 a.m. Please come early and stay after for lunch to network with others. Bring a guest and lets accomplish more together than we can apart!

This month’s speaker will be Joann Dillavou, director of Minnesota Circles of Support and Accountability Program, and also Department of Corrections Reentry Services Unit. Joann has an extensive background as a Supervising Agent to include supervision and maintenance of felony predatory offenders, along with co-facilitation of sex offender specific treatment groups.

R3 is excited to announce its upcoming computer classes! Below is a list of the classes that are being offered so far. We plan on adding more when we get an idea on the number of people who would be interested.

August 18th 7 – 9 p.m. Windows 7 Introductory Course – Learn the basics

If you’re new to computers, or just new to Microsoft Windows 7, this course will get you up to speed fast. We’ll start with the absolute basics: the computer terms. Then you will explore some fun Windows 7 features that let you personalize your screen so it suits your style and your specific needs. You will find out how to type and edit text so you can easily create emails or documents. You will also learn how to save and organize your work so it’s always a snap to find your files.
